We are told that God does not give us more than we can handle and that if He brings us to it, He'll bring us through it. Well, God must think that I'm a NASCAR driver.
As I traveled from Bar Harbor, Maine to Plymouth, Massachusetts I took Interstate 95--similar to our Interstate 80. I was cruising along, not a care in the world--I'm on vacation, after all. Well I knew the area in and around Boston would be hectic but nothing prepared me for the madness I was about to face.
I chose to take I-95 around Boston, versus taking Rt. 93 through Boston figuring the traffic would be somewhat better. Well, that was an incorrect assumption on my part. Within minutes, my peaceful three-lane highway went to a four-lane highway with on and off ramps. Nothing I couldn't handle until I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed a line of cars coming up on my right side. I was already in the far-right lane!
The next thing I know, I have a tractor-trailer on my left and cars coming up on my right--in the "breakdown" lane, otherwise known as the "side of the road." I was baffled, confused, frightened and nervous. Before long, I was in a full-blown panic attack--tears streaming down my face, unable to catch my breath, and wanting to pull over and call my mom to come rescue me. So, instead, I turned to God.
I said the serenity prayer aloud and then reminded myself that God does not give us more than we can handle and that if He brings us to it, He'll bring us through it. Prior to my trip today, I did say a prayer asking for a steady hand and safety for myself and the drivers around me--which I typically do before any especially long drive.
Once again, God answered my prayers and Jesus took the wheel. I made it through this madness and chaos of Boston traffic in one piece and I am so thankful to God for that.
Moral of the story--when in doubt or crisis, turn to God. He will listen, hear and answer your prayers. He's also good at giving you what you need to teach you what you're capable of. Amen to that!!
