June 4, 2018The following is an excerpt from the book "Walk Humbly With Your God" By Father Andrew Apostolic. This short excerpt can certainly be a lesson to us all.
"One of the saints used this when hearing the confession of a woman who was the town gossip. After she confessed so many instances of gossiping, the saint wanted to impress on her that what she considered insignificant chater was really having far-reaching negative effects.
He told her that for her penance, she had to take a pillow filled with feathers, go to the town square, open up the pillow and throw the feathers to the four winds. Then she had to go around and pick up all the feathers.“Well, that is impossible,” the women complained. The wind will carry those feathers all over town!”
“And that is exactly what happens to your gossip,” the saint replied. “What you think you are spreading to just one individual soon will spread all over town!”
Needless to say, the penance broke the women of her habit of gossiping. I have a feeling that remedy would work all the time!"
