“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God.” ~ Ps 42:1
Have you ever skipped breakfast and then find yourself at the grocery store near lunch. It’s the worst possible time to shop because you are so hungry and everything you don’t need you end up buying. You make poor choices driven out of hunger.
The same can be said for our spiritual walk. When we don’t make time for God each day, to spend in prayer and reflection we get hungry. As our hunger grows the enemy sees a chance to come in and offer us things we don’t want, and in our weakened state sometimes we give in to the temptation of sin.
Just as we need food, so we need quiet prayer time with God. We cannot succeed without God’s daily bread! After all, if we want God to shape our lives, and for us to grow in him, we need to be in communion with him.
It is in this daily quiet time that God directs us, corrects us, and encourages us forward. We must make it a priority to give Him a portion of each day, just as we make it a priority to eat. This way He can nourish us so that we are strong to stand against the enemy. We need the strength given by our heavenly Father.
