Father Junior, the Pastor of our Sister Parish in Haiti, made a return visit to Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish from August 17th to August 21st 2017. From his Parish, The Immaculate Conception, in LaLouere, Haiti. His visit to the United States as well as our travel groups' visits to Haiti deepen the bond between our parishes and bring real human faces to our relationship.
Some of the Highlights are as follows:
- Father Junior landed on Thursday August 17th at JFK Airport. After arriving in Mifflinburg, he was fed and offered a comfortable bed to recover from his journey.
- Friday August 18th was filled with getting reacquainted with small groups of parishioners composed of members of the SIster Parish Committee, Caring Community, Parish Council, and Representatives of other church committees.
- Saturday August 19th, found Father Junior and Father Wilke concelebrating Mass at Sacred Heart. Mass was followed by a large social, open to all, held in Sacred Heart Hall where everyone shared food and fellowship. A special moment occurred when Father Wilke asked Father Junior for a blessing. Father Wilke, in turn, blessed Father Junior. A financial gift was given to Father Junior to assist in the efforts at Immaculate COnception to educate the children of the Parish and the surrounding community. Also, two wooden arrows were presented. one pointing from Sacred Heart PA, toward Haiti. The other pointing from Immaculate Conception, LaLouere toward the USA. The blessings, gift, ande arrows all signified the connection Sacred Heart and Immaculate Conception have with one another.
- Father Junior spent Sunday August 20th, concelebrating Massat St. George with Father Wilke. Another large social followed Mass, this time in the downstairs of St. George and were introduced to the mission work being done in Haiti. Father Junior was then whisked away to Knobels for the Parish Picnic.
- Mondya August 21st was departure day. Father Junior ate with a small group and was then taken to JFK for his flight back to Haiti. He left with memories, prayers, and the anticipation of the SIster Parish Travel team visiting Haiti in January 2018.
