There are days I look at the sunrise on my way to work and think to myself, "Man, God is amazing." But nothing, shows you just how amazing God is like the beauty in nature. From mountains to oceans and everything in between, God's hand has touched it all.
I went on a vacation recently, and let me say, standing atop the east coast's tallest peak--Mount Washington at 6,288 ft.--looking out over the vast landscape, I could see all the way to the ocean. The sky was a pristine blue without a cloud in sight and the air was cool and crisp. I was reminded of how God wanted the earth to look--not overrun with housing developments and factories. Not polluted with litter and chemicals and the destruction of wildlife habitats.
God wanted the earth to be pure and beautiful. Fragrant with the scent of fresh-growing pine trees and autumn maple. Vibrant with the myriad green hues seen from trees to grass to plant-life, accented with the changing colors of autumn mixed in. Peaceful with the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze, animals scurrying from burrow to burrow and birds singing the songs of Heaven. And the natural tastes of fresh maple syrup, home-grown vegetables, and fresh-picked fruit.
God also shows us that nature is not only beautiful, but powerful, too. The waves of the ocean can be serene and peaceful but they can also be wild and intense. From a steady rise and fall of the tide, to the crashing of waves among the rocks lining the shore, the power of nature is truly a sight to see.
I'm thankful everyday that I've been blessed with the opportunity to see God's beauty through nature in the ways I have during this trip. It's opened my eyes to some things I need to change about myself and it's opened my eyes to what God truly wanted us to see and enjoy through nature.
Whether your an outdoor enthusiast or your idea of camping is roasting marshmallows in the back yard, take time to truly look at the world around you. Open your eyes to what God wants you to see. Open your ears to what God wants you to hear. Take in the scents God wants you to smell and the natural flavors God wants you to savor. The world has been given to us to enjoy while we are here and waiting to move onto Heaven. Yes, it has its bad parts, but look beyond them and see what God truly has given us to make live on earth a little nicer.
